Issue # 58: September 14, 2023
Update from the President
Frankie Cocanour
Bargaining:
We met with the college last Tuesday to discuss our proposals. We TA’d the New Article 13 which deals with Reclass, Reclass Appeal, Classification System. This is separate from class and Comp.
We also discussed wages, benefits, and how the college can’t afford anything and about how their Moody Credit Rating has dropped. I’m having trouble writing anything on this because it is not the fault of the classified employees and we should not be the employee group that is having to take cuts to benefits and a low COLA to fix it. Or depend on a few employees in the classified employee group to have to keep enrollment numbers high in order for us to get a step.
Board of Education:
The board would like to hear from you. Here is a Group email address link to make it easier to send them a letter. Group LInk The board would like to support us. Please feel free to email them. It doesn’t have to be a long email full of numbers and statistics. They just would like to hear how the cuts to benefits and the low COLA will affect you. They would also like to hear about how you feel about the contingency clause in their proposal for steps. That really puts horrible pressure on just a few employees.
General Membership Meeting:
Our next GMM is going to be at 1:30 in building 19 room 226. We have some stuff planned and we will have snacks.
Wear Red During Fall In-service Day!!!
Please wear your red shirt to show the college that it is wrong for them to make our employee group the only one that takes the financial hit to balance the budget. We need to show them that we are strong and that we will not accept having our benefits cut and be given another small raise that won’t even cover the cuts to our benefits.

Vice President of Labor Relations
Buck Potter (2022-2023 Term)
Good Thursday to my colleagues:
I would like to share some information with you, that will hopefully shed some light on the situation with Grievances that have been ongoing for a while. I’m going to highlight something that Claudia Riumallo shared a couple weeks back, and provide two links:
EEOC Complaint: 1-800-237-3710
Website: https://www.oregon.gov/employ/Pages/Equal-Opportunity.aspx
BOLI Oregon: 971-673-0761
Website: https://www.oregon.gov/boli/workers/pages/complaint.aspx
These two tools will also help with dealing with grievances/violations that have occurred in our workplace. Know your rights, and DO NOT Be Afraid to make your voice heard at the State Of Oregon.
Also, with regard to reclassification, I also have a couple of areas on the Lane website you will need to go to in order to start the process. Here is the page for Reclassification on the Lane website:
https://inside.lanecc.edu/copps/documents/reclassification-classified-positions
Here’s the forms that you will need to complete prior to the Reclassification deadlines of April 1st and October 1st of every calendar year:
Job Description Questionnaire: https://inside.lanecc.edu/sites/default/files/hr/documents/jdq.frm_.pdf
Classification Review Form:
https://inside.lanecc.edu/sites/default/files/hr/documents/classificationreviewform_000.pdf
This should give you the tools necessary to complete and turn in your reclassification request. I’m glad to visit for a limited period of time concerning this, but I don’t know each person’s job, so it is best if you work on getting the details put together in a percentile format on the JDQ.

Bargaining From a Political Standpoint: Those endorsements we make actually matter!
As a member of the Bargaining Team, as we see what our Management is proposing to “offer” us (as they take away equal or more in other areas), it becomes obvious that who sits on the Board of Education
Officer At Large
Katie Neall (2023-2024 Term)
Bargaining is ongoing and no acceptable resolutions have been reached. The time to make our voices heard is NOW. Reach out to your nearest union rep, and find out how you can help us move into a better future by joining and getting active in your union; become a part of the movement of positive change on Lane’s campus. Together, we will let the current administration know we won’t tolerate their third rate treatment of classified professionals. The college cannot and will not balance their budget on our backs. Many faculty are in support of the classified employees, and have spoken out about the unfairness of the current wage/benefits being negotiated. Join the efforts now and make your voice heard.
If you have or will be negatively affected by the current wage and benefit bargaining, please reach out and tell me your story at: katherine.neall@gmail.com
I want to hear from you.
