Update from the President
Frankie Cocanour
Bargaining:
We will be bargaining this upcoming Tuesday at 11:00 am. The bargaining team will be meeting tonight to discuss what we will present to the college. We have had some of our own members out for vacation and so we have a lot of work to do tonight.
Please be there in person and be wearing your union shirts or another red shirt if you don’t have a union shirt. We need to show the college how important it is that we get a fair contract and that we are in this together. If you can only attend via zoom, then please show your red by using the union template and if you know how to change your profile name, change it to your favorite union slogan. It’s good for management to see that the members who are silently watching via zoom also care about a fair contract.
We Still Need Testimonials For Bargaining And The Board OF Ed Meeting:
We are still looking for as many classified professionals as possible to read statements at our next bargaining session, then the BOE meeting September 6th. We need people to tell their truths about where they are struggling now in the financial climate that we are in and also how the cut in benefits are going to affect you. The Board of Education has more board members that are pro-labor than we have had in many years. They want to support us, so we need to give them the reasons why they should be supporting us. and they need to hear how you work hard, you deserve a fair wage increase, and how the college cutting benefits are going to affect (hurt) you. Please reach out to myself, Miche or Colin if you would like to volunteer. I know from personal experience that it is hard to do public speaking, but we really need as many people as we can so that we can give them a realistic picture of what the classified professionals are going through. If you are uncomfortable speaking, if you can attend the BOE meeting September 6th at 6:00 pm and hold a sign, that will help so much. We need as many people as we can get to show to the board that we are not accepting what the college is offering us, that we deserve real compensation for the work that we do!! We can do so much when we do it together!!
The CAT Team should be announcing the plans for meeting in the afternoon prior to the September 6th BOE Meeting. This will not require anyone to stay for the entire meeting, just long enough to attend. They have not yet posted the agenda for the September 6th meeting, but you can email in a request to speak at the meeting to the email in the link below.

I actually found quite a few interesting topics that will be discussed at the BOE meeting next week. I think it’s worth everyone’s time to look at the agenda. Look at value of next year’s contract that the college is paying the management company for Titan Court next year. Worth reading.
Reclassification Deadline:
If you need assistance please contact our VP of Labor. The deadline is October 1st.
Here are the links for the forms that you will need to fill out.

As we move into the dog days of summer, and prepare for the second term of the 2023-24 school year, please take a moment to consider what changes you would like to see on campus and consider how your participation in LCCEF Local 2417 Union can help you achieve these goals. A union is only as strong as its members!
Contract bargaining is ongoing, and the college is currently offering a rather paltry sum for classified staff, which amounts to more of a pay cut than a pay raise or COLA. Additionally, all wage increases for classified employees will be restricted by enrollment numbers. Now is the time for classified staff to unite. We must rally together and let the college administration know that we will not stand for their biased and unfair treatment of classified professionals.
Reach out to me at katherine.neall@gmail.com to find out ways you can participate in supporting the union as we continue bargaining for a fair contract for classified employees.
