Update from the President

Bargaining:

The college has asked to bargain on Appendix B at our next meeting. The LCCEF bargaining team will be discussing what we will put forward to the college during our team’s next meeting. We hope that everyone will join us for our next Bargaining session on April 4th. You can attend via zoom or in person. We will send out a zoom link and room location when the meeting gets closer.

1039 Employees:

If you are a 1039 employee that worked on February 22nd and wasn’t able to work your entire shift due to the lockdown you will be getting compensated for the hours that you were scheduled to work. I have not been informed as to which paycheck that it will be on.

Greeting Members,

Greetings members,

Our next bargaining session is Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at 11:00am. Members are welcomed to observe via Zoom with your microphones and cameras OFF, please. I will be running a Slack Chat to allow observers to chat with me and I can pass ideas to the team at the table. I will actually be at the table also but bouncing into the chat to answer questions you may have. Email me your private email address to: colinlccef@gmail.com so I can add you to the chat. You will find the link for the bargaining meeting below.

CAT Chat:

We’ve changed to Slack because it’s best that we use a platform not owned/associated with the College. If you have been in a previous Google Chat, you will automatically be added to Slack. If you have not, please email me at: colinlccef@gmail.com. Please provide your private email address.

Working with a few folks about their work environments. Remember if you have any questions at all, big or small, reach out to your EC. Maybe someone else is experiencing the same thing and could use help.

We have labor management meetings every third week. Upcoming on 3/31 which will involve a conversation pertaining to the childcare center downtown and safety concerns for staff and children. Also, the outsourcing of tasks that would normally be done by a classified staff. If you have any questions pertaining to labor management you want us to ask please email Dawn, Frankie, Buck or Colin.

We are off to a great start with bargaining! We will be meeting again next week to dive into proposals.

Communications Officer

Marleena Pearson (2022-2023 Term)

Bargaining starts off slow, but this is when it’s your chance to build power across campus by participating in actions and encouraging new members.

Want better benefits as a 1039 timesheet employee, become a dues paying member and show the College it matters to you. Want better working conditions with work from home opportunities and a standard workload, show the College you won’t let this slide anymore by wearing red on Wednesdays and sharing your stories.

Did you participate in actions last week? Are you ready to participate next week? Bargaining April 4th.

Membership Officer

Skye Nguyen (2022-2023 Term)

Bargaining has taken off. As a first time ever doing any type of bargaining this feels manageable and I am looking forward to us all working together to get progress on the bargaining areas we are going for. I look forward to seeing you at the next sessions in Zoom!

If there are any questions about membership or someone has interest in joining, they can reach out to me (membership@lccef.org) or fill out the online membership form. 🙂

Your Benefit Info of the Week

Did you know that members get some really useful benefits? This week we are highlighting free access to NewsGuard. NewsGuard is a browser extension that is free for AFT Union Members that gives traffic light icons on news articles and websites. This traffic light tells you how credible the article and news source is. You should rarely take any news for face value and do your own research, and NewsGuard might be a good starting point for your own research! You can learn about this opportunity you can get as a union member by visiting AFT’s website

VACANT

Are you a frustrated 1039 employee that feels like there isn’t much that the union does for you? Well, please join our team and help create a way for the executive council to serve the 1039 employees better. There is a position available for 1039 employees on the council. This is the best way for 1039 employees to assist with what needs to make the contract more equitable. The only way to change the working conditions that you don’t like or feel that are not equitable is to stand up and fight for it. This position was created so that 1039 employees could have a voice. We are asking for this position to be filled because it is important and there are so many 1039 employees who are frustrated with the contract.
