Update from the President

Frankie Cocanour (2021-2022 Term)

This last week I was introduced to our new Title IX Coordinator Daniel Brown. It was good to hear that employees are welcome to use the Title IX services. I would like to really encourage anyone that feels that they might need this service to use it. Here is a little write up about Daniel and the Title IX services.

Daniel Brown is the new, full-time Title IX Coordinator for Lane Community College. Daniel comes to Lane from a diverse background, including completing his undergraduate degree at Michigan State University, serving 10 years in the Air Force as a Linguist, then attending the University of Oregon School of Law. As an attorney, Daniel worked with the Domestic Violence Clinic and Student Survivor Legal Services, providing free legal services to low-income individuals and students survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence.

As the Title IX Coordinator, Daniel will provide several services to the LCC community, which anyone, Student, Faculty, or Staff, may use. The Title IX Program will address and investigate any complaints of sexual harassement, gender discrimination, sexual assault, or interpersonal or domestic violence. Through Daniel, the program will provide information and access to resources, including government, community, and legal resources. The Title IX Program will also be able to provide counseling services to anyone in the LCC community through Megan Marshall, a Mental Health Clinician.

One thing Daniel would like to stress is that resources will be available to anyone in the LCC community that may be experiencing sexual harassment, gender discrimination, sexual assault, or interpersonal or domestic violence. Daniel is located in Building 19, Room 105, right next to the Health Clinic, and Megan is co-located in the Health Clinic. You may stop by or email him at BrownDKT@lanecc.edu or TitleIX@lanecc.edu.

Vice President of Labor Relations

Buck Potter (2022-2023 Term)

Labor relations are in full swing as we work with the College to review department staffing needs. We have 3 -4  labor relations issues we are working on, and have been having regular Labor Relations Meetings every two weeks with Human Resources.

A reminder to all Classified Professionals, if you are having issues within your department, please contact myself concerning labor relations issues.  I’m currently dealing with a labor dispute, and want to make people aware of being mindful of workload expectations with the start of Fall Term and your job position assignments.

Vice President of Organizing

Colin Vurek (2021-2022 Term)

Thank you all who came in person and/or attended the GMM meeting via Zoom last Thursday!  The ideas you all brought forward were so well thought out and received wonderfully by all your fellow members! Your engagement is invaluable and I hope to build on this!

And, one of the most important things you can do to support yourself and your union is to get involved with elections!

Be on the lookout for more dates for Zoom drop-in meetings for CAT and Worksite Leaders with me and Communications Officer, Marleena Pearson.

You should have received your “Practice Run” for electronic voting yesterday! Please give it a whirl. You will have opportunities to give your feedback at the end.

UNION STRONG!
