Issue # 6: August 23, 2022
Update from the President
Frankie Cocanour
It’s that time of year when we need to remember to re-sign up for our insurance benefits. If you are like me you might for some reason you don’t understand, put it off until the last week to sign up. Not sure I do that, but I do. We will send out a weekly reminder to everyone to get this done.
INSURANCE OPEN ENROLLMENT
The annual open enrollment period for insurance will begin on August 15, 2022 and continue through September 15, 2022. This open enrollment period is only for the OEBB administered benefits: medical, dental, vision, voluntary life, AD&D, and long-term care. (Section 125 open enrollment will come later in 2022.)
ACTION IS REQUIRED FOR THIS OPEN ENROLLMENT CYCLE, this is a required “mandatory” open enrollment. You must login to MyOEBB (https://myoebb.org/oebb/!pb.main) between 08/15/2022 and 09/15/2022 to reselect your insurance plans or to waive or opt-out of coverage. Failure to finalize your elections may result in the loss of benefits or opt-out stipend effective 10/01/2022.
MORE INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE on the HR Open Enrollment web page.
In-service day Membership Meeting:
We will be having a membership meeting on in-service day. We are waiting to hear the time that the college will put aside for union meetings. There will be a lot to discuss at this meeting.
Announcements and Reminder
DON’T FORGET TO WEAR RED ON WEDNESDAYS!
Vice President of Labor Relations
Buck Potter
Labor relations are in full swing as we work with the College to review department staffing needs. We have 6 – 8 labor relations issues we are working on, and have been having regular Labor Relations Meetings every two weeks with Human Resources. We are also in COVID MOA Bargaining with the College, which has seen very little traction. Bargaining won’t resume until September 8th.

Vice President of Organizing
Colin Vurek
We’ll be scheduling more drop-in meetings for classified professionals who are interested in becoming Worksite Leaders or joining CAT. Dates TBD.
We’ve begun planning for the Fall 2022 In-service in September. Preliminary plans are a General Membership meeting and other fun stuff. A lot depends on how continued bargaining goes over the next month on the Working Conditions MOA.
Speaking of bargaining, we are on a 2-week hiatus while the College’s bargaining team is on vacation.

Grievance Officer
Dawn Rupp
Hope everyone is having a great week! Remember that as much as we would like to help you with all of the issues going on in your areas we are here to step in when there has been a contract violation or labor dispute. Example would be if you are having an issue with a coworker (classified team member) you have to give your manager the opportunity to resolve it. If your manager does not resolve this issue contact us.
We want to be all things to build a strong classified team and support all. We are happy to listen and hope to continue to help solve the management issues by encouraging the administration to coach and train their managers on why we are all here.
Remember that President Bulger has open office hours every second Tuesday,
9-10:30 a.m. Interested employees are invited to schedule a 15-minute appointment during the open office hours by contacting Tami Hill at hilltk@lanecc.edu. Any and all employees can make an appointment with President Bulger and she encourages these meetings.
From the Lane Weekly dated 7/26 President Bulger wrote, “We’re all ambassadors for LCC and I’m interested in hearing directly from you about how we can be more responsive to the communities we serve”.

We’re in Summer time, and things seem somewhat quiet on elections. However, as we see one revelation after another through the January 6th hearings, it’s important to understand both the implications of what actually happened that day, and in the months leading up to it, and the efforts being made at the state level in multiple states across the country, to ensure that elections remain free and fair for all voters.
The midterm elections this coming November seem far away. Right now, what we can do is ensure that everyone has a voice.
There are voter registration efforts going on, and you can participate!
- You can help register voters in Oregon.
- You can use phone calling apps to help with voter registration efforts in key states like Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan, Wisconsin, Arizona, North Carolina, and Virginia.
- You can reach out to a candidate you are interested in and volunteer some time for their campaign.
If you have any questions about what you might be able to do, or how to get involved, feel free to contact me! —Fiora Starchild-Wolf
