Hello LCCEF members,
The 2022 primary midterm elections are right around the corner. If you haven’t already registered to vote, the deadline is coming up soon. April 26th is the deadline to register to vote or change party affiliation. Ballots will begin being sent out the following day. Since we are in Lane County, here is their website where you can check or update your registration.
Ballots must be returned by May 17th . Ballots that are mailed must be postmarked by election day.
In February/March, LCCEF’s EC members met with each candidate for Oregon’s 4th Congressional District who was seeking endorsement from LCCEF. Each candidate filled out a questionnaire prepared by the COPE Officer. Each candidate was given a Zoom interview to discuss their views on a number of topics. We were especially interested in the candidate’s views on labor, education, and how they would approach legislation in Congress to best represent Oregon’s widely varied 4th district. In a unanimous vote, we chose to endorse Val Hoyle, as we felt she represents the strongest chance to win this seat, and has many years of legislative experience in the Oregon statehouse, as well as being Oregon’s current Labor Commissioner, and a very strong advocate for labor overall, which will allow her to work for us in Congress.
In local terms, the races for Lane County Commissioners have the potential to impact Lane Community College and our members in important ways, so we will be sending a questionnaire to candidates for these races for possible endorsement as well.
If you are interested in helping us form the questionnaire, or would like to participate in an endorsement vote, please contact Fiora Starchild-Wolf, our COPE Officer.
In solidarity,
Sam Ramberg
