We did not plan to write any updates over the holiday break, as we know most employees are taking the time to rest and recharge away from our work emails. Unfortunately, the last week has not been restful for all our classified family, and it is with heavy hearts that we felt we must share the following.
We were notified today of the sudden and heartbreaking tragedy in the family of one of our very own. Our hearts go out to Beth Schenderlein and her family as they grieve the loss of her husband and daughter in a tragic accident last week. Many of you likely remember Beth who was one of our part-time classified staff for over 20 years; she worked in International Student Services until last March and her presence is dearly missed at Lane. Her husband Dave was also a part of our LCC family and taught as PT faculty for many years. The Schenderleins contributed positively to every community they were part of over the years, and we ask our LCCEF community to join us in this opportunity to give back in any way we can.
We’ve included more details below from the GoFundMe account set up to raise funds for Beth and her family; please give if you are able: https://www.gofundme.com/f/caring-for-beth-schenderlein/donations.
For 20 years, the Schenderleins opened their hearts and home to family and friends from around the world. Now, we have the opportunity to do the same for them.
On Dec. 23rd, 2020, we learned of the tragic loss of Dave and Sarah Schenderlein during a paddle-boarding accident on the Willamette River. The impact and grief are beyond words. Their community of family and friends extending from Eugene-Springfield, Oregon to Japan and beyond stand prayerfully and lovingly with Beth. For all who knew them, it’s our chance to step up and show the active engagement and heartfelt care they shared over the years.
These funds will help provide time and resources for the journey of mourning, rest, and healing. In early 2020, Beth’s position supporting international students at Lane Community College was cut due to the impact of Covid-19. All funds go exclusively to Beth for the following:
-Daily expenses for Beth over the coming months (food, necessities, insurance)
-Memorial and remembrance-related costs for Dave and Sarah
-Trip(s) for Beth to spend time with family and loved ones in the U.S. and Japan
-Hosting guests and visitors over the coming months
-Upkeep and maintenance of the home they moved into last summer
Most of all, your prayers are so greatly appreciated. Your gift will help in the process. Thank you for supporting Beth in this long journey. To help get the word out, please share this link on your social media.
