After a long delay, the administration finally received the completed compensation report from the vendor. LCCEF was given copies of the report and it was immediately apparent that the report was not adequate. It used only one other institution as a comparator (Chemeketa Community College) and otherwise relied on data from market survey companies. Many of the LCCEF positions did not have equivalent positions at Chemeketa, so there was no direct comparison made to an existing position at another institution.
The conclusion of the study was that compensation at LCC is within or above the market range; however, as far as LCCEF is concerned, we see no legitimate data in the report to justify this outcome.
The union has begun performing a compensation study of our own. We are gathering compensation data from the city of Eugene, the city of Springfield, Lane and Marion counties, as well as Rogue, Clackamas, Central Oregon and Mount Hood community colleges. We believe that with this data we should be able to get a much more accurate picture of how LCC pay compares with other public employers in the region.
