Weekly Communication’s Update 6/10/2019

Table of Contents

Bargaining – Economic Reopener

Classified members are welcome and encouraged to attend the sessions. We recognize the hardship for some employees who are unable to take personal time to join; consider taking a late lunch and eat with us. As a reminder, sessions start at 1 p.m. in Center, Room 303. Even staying for 15 minutes and joining in solidarity will make an impact.  Please be sure to coordinate with your manager. Sitting in on bargaining can not be done on paid time, so you will need to use a lunch hour, break or personal/vacation time and be sure that attending does not negatively impact your daily work.

Thank you to those members showing support by wearing red on Fridays, sitting in on Bargaining sessions and displaying posters We really appreciate the support!

Details about bargaining meetings will be posted each Monday and referenced in the weekly communications update (just like this).  All posts will be available through the Bargaining Committee page on the website.

Our latest Bargaining Update is after the meeting on June 7, 2019.  Please send questions, or support, to the bargaining team.  You can also use the forums to discuss bargaining, but please remember to keep it professional.

Insurance Survey

While we were hoping to have survey information ready for us for bargaining last Friday, it’s not too late!  If you have not yet filled out the insurance survey, please plan on doing so as soon as possible. Like, tonight, or tomorrow.  Remember, we are bargaining for our benefits.

Membership Drive

Monday, June 10th – Thursday, June 13th 2019

LCCEF is holding a membership drive this week!  Our goal for our membership drive is to continue to reach out to classified staff, have conversations with non-members about joining LCCEF as a member and ask existing members to join us in delivering our post card pledge cards at the June 13th board meeting. By continuing to increase membership and participation we continue to strengthen LCCEF as a union.

Insurance Committee

2019-20 OEBB Rates and Plan Designs

Our current PacificSource plans with 16.5% Increase

The college monthly premium levels have been tentatively agreed to as follows; Employee only $824.48 Employee +1 $1770.99 Employee +Child $1770.99 Full Family $2390.89

Pat Cross our benefits agent-of-record, has clarified it will not be productive to engage in a “check bid” process with other potential health insurance carriers for the following reasons:

  • The current in-excess of 100% utilization rates (claims experience) for PacificSource plans.
  • The reality that there are State health insurance plan options for public employers and their covered employees to consider.
  • Pat believe there will not be competitive “check bids” submitted given the two realities outlined above.

As a point of clarification when Utilization rates/experience ratings exceed 85-88% the insurance company loses money on the group.

Please watch for an announcement coming soon from HR with dates and times of Insurance 101 information sessions.

Joint Insurance Committee composed of 10 classified members and 7 managers.

*** Note there is no decision to go to OEBB.  The membership will vote on insurance.***

Do Your Part for Bargaining

The bargaining team needs your help!

Office Signs

If you have an office with a highly visible window and you would like a “Fair Contract NOW” sign, contact and we’ll get you one.  If you aren’t up to a big sign, get a smaller version here.  It will look great on your office door, or in your cubicle.

Wear red on Fridays

The bargaining team needs administration to see that the Classified union stands together.  Looking out the window on the 3rd floor of the Center Building during bargaining and seeing red shirts helps more than you know!

Union Benefits – Discounts on almost everything

MetLife Auto & Home Insurance

Buying a car and a home are likely the two biggest purchases you will make in a lifetime. Because it is important to protect these valuable assets, the AFT has joined with MetLife Auto & Home to provide access to special group discounts on auto and home insurance.
