January 14, 2019 Food Services, Titan Store, CML update

At the January 10, 2019, Board of Ed meeting the 3 services under review for outsourcing or restructuring were not on the agenda.  Regardless, we feel it is important to keep this issue on the Board’s mind.  We again asked for comments from our members and you provided many!  See those 50 comments as well as the additional 21 members who signed their name in support here.  The majority of these comments were read by LCCEF Vice President Kenny Ascheri and LCCEF Membership Chair Rosa Maria Banuelos-Uribe.

LCCEF President Robin Geyer posed many questions to the Board.  While outsourcing numbers ($$$) may look good on paper the reality does not take other factors into consideration. Read her statement here.  

Managers Tony Sanjume and David Ferris each spoke during public comment.  Tony shared a few highlights of a proposal that will be presented to the Board to reduce expenses for the Titan Store.  Ideas such as moving some employees to the general fund, reducing hours of operation on both main campus and the downtown Titan Store, and possibly merging the Titan Store with Food Services.

David Ferris spoke to the Board about the lack of steady management, until recently, and shared that, given more time with current management and some restructuring, he believes Food Services can be sustainable. There were also stories shared with the Board from employees and students.

Please share your thoughts and ideas with us and, if possible, join us at the next Board of Education meeting on February 14, 2019, at 6:30pm, Bldg 3, in the Boardroom.  Yes, that is on Valentines Day! Remember to wear your Union t-shirts and/or Union buttons!
